Please, Ceiling, Don't Collapse on Me
According to the person who subletted my space over the summer, my ceiling is slowly caving in.
Actually, there is a 5 by 6 rectangular white board patched to the spot where my ceiling caved in sometime in August. Crazy stuff. But I'm just glad no one was around when it fell. When I came back in September, although much of the plaster and god-knows-what-else was cleaned up by the super, it was still quite a mess-- chunks and slabs had to be vacuumed up from the nooks and crannies of my room. Apparently, this building is ancient (I believe it), way before the time when they started using steel beams to reinforce the spacing between floors. So the plaster and whatever is up there is starting to deteriorate....
There are tell-tale signs of cracking in the area surrounding the patch. I'm staring at it now as I lie in bed. Shit. And it doesn't help that there's an 800 lb gorrilla that sometimes does aerobics in the apartment above me (or so it seems, I haven't confirmed that).
Geezus. It's right over my bed (the foot of the bed though) and I'm getting paranoid. I called up Franklin (the super) and he's coming by on Thursday morning to do some heavy duty construction to get it fixed.
Let's just hope it makes it through the week.
